A ranch-style home near Amar Road had a crawl space that smelled musty every time the HVAC cycled. We found three inches of standing water after the last winter storm, a torn 6-mil poly vapor barrier, and fiberglass batts drooping between joists like wet newspapers. We pumped the water, installed a sump basin with a sealed lid, laid a 20-mil reinforced vapor barrier over the entire footprint, and sealed it to the piers and foundation walls with butyl tape. Attic Air Sealing & Blown-In Insulation - Can Lights and Chimney Chase in Valinda
This Valinda homeowner’s gas bill had climbed 40% over two winters. In the attic, we counted ten unsealed recessed can lights - each one a 6-inch hole dumping heated air into the attic space - plus a chimney chase that ran from the basement to the roof with no blocking, creating a thermal bypass you could feel with your hand from three feet away. Insulation Removal & Rodent Proofing - Contaminated Attic in Central La Puente
The homeowner heard scratching for three weeks before calling. We found a compromised gable vent screen, evidence of roof rat activity through the attic, and cellulose insulation contaminated throughout.
